Womens Marathon qualifier for Beijing

So Sunday was the marathon qualifier for the Beijing Olympics. WOW! Those girls are fast. What a great race to watch. It was great day in Boston for women's running!

Joan Benoit Samuelson who ran her last marathon, did so in spectacular fashion. The pioneer of women's marathoning won the first Olympic Marathon Trials, the first Women's Olympic Marathon, and today in her last appearance, at the age of 50, set a new American marathon record for her age. The MC, as Joan came down the home stretch to cross the finish, mentioned that she passed about 15 people in the last mile. Man that lady still has it.

On the womens side, it was a great race. Top 3 women were Deena Kastor, Magdalena Lewy Boulet and Blake Russell who will now represent us in Beijing. Magdalena led from the start and held it until the last lap when Deena took over the lead and never let go. She ran a great race and never looked worried even when Magdalena was out in front by over a minute thirty. Looks like we'll have great represenatation.

On the tri side of the house, Desiree Flicker looked great throughout the first half and then did not look so happy coming in to the finish at about 3:48. She looked really strong but may have gone out to fast for her and did not have her day. But it was great to see her out there as she is one of our tri favs.
